The school of Imzad in Tamanrasset
Duration of the training course
12 months for the first pilot group, as agreed with the Professional Training Department, and taking account of the specified training programme.
Training modules incorporated within the theoretical syllabus:
- Tifinagh.
- Heritage and culture.
- Songs and poems of the imzad.
- Introduction to information technology.
Training modules incorporated within the practical syllabus:
- Techniques of instrument-making
- Apprenticeship and practice of imzad-playing.
Training premises:
- Classroom for teaching pure-theory courses.
- Equipment-room for introductory courses in Information Technology.
- Atelier for imzad-making: in this room, the instrument making is carried out in the traditional way, directly on the ground, on carpets
A workshop for the manufacture of imzad instruments has been set up in the Institute for Professional Training, equipped at present with only the most basic tools, but this will be upgraded in due course.
Some thirty imzad instruments have been made so far.
An order has been placed for 100 calabashes, 50 goatskins, and a quantity of colouring dye-powder.
Equipment:
The Association provides the students with the tools and materials necessary for the fabrication of the imzads. Thus each student has her own instrument, which she has made herself as part of the practical training in the course.
