CONCRETE ACHIEVEMENTS
Other achievements between January and March 2005
At the time of the international colloquium on the Imzad, the Association travelled to Ideles and to In Guezzam to raise awareness among the local population. As a result…
- 280 imzad violins, and 300 Touareg leather bags were made and given to the participants in the colloquium. The craftsmen and students who did this work were paid by the Association thanks to funding provided by the sponsors.
- 150 copies of the rock-paintings on the flat rock faces of the Hoggar were produced by Miss Sakhi Karima, one of the Association’s students. These stones, each one bearing the name in Tifinagh of a participant in the colloquium, were given as a way of helping them know and understand the region better: its past, its present, and the need to ensure its future.
- The Association welcomed Mr Bouaziz Yacine, a student at the University of Nice, and suggested that he might make a film about the transmission of the culture and music of the imzad from mother to daughter. Mr Bouaziz had all the resources at his disposal to make such a documentary, even including full access to the family of the young girl. This film is now in the course of production.
June 2004
The Association’s presence during Energy Week in Algiers.
At the invitation of Sonatrach (the national energy enterprise) the “Sauver l’Imzad” Association (students and staff) set up a display for 5 days during Energy Week at the Algiers International Fair.
The Association showed the wealth of the Hoggar: its culture. A large tent erected in the Exhibition Centre attracted the representatives of 140 energy-producing countries. While being served tea, the visitors introduced to the art and culture of the Touareg, including imzad music, tindey rhythms, and takouba dancing.
A feature article appeared in the magazine JST6 on 24 June 2004.
This activity illustrates how Sonatrach works actively and in concrete ways to contribute to lasting development.
