The Imzad in Japan...
The Japanese are keen to know about other cultures. The President of the “Sauver l’Imzad” Association travelled to Japan from 16 September to 3 October 2006 to inform them about the imzad, the Touareg people, and Algeria.
The Japanese welcome was very warm, and they showed great interest. Mme Sellal outlined (with the help of a simultaneous translator) the important elements of Touareg culture, and the significance of the imzad as a symbol and as a means of combating the loss of memories, and of combating poverty too. The need to safeguard this heritage was well understood and supported by the Japanese hosts.
A photographic exhibition made it possible to show the special beauty of the South, and generated great interest.
